Once upon a time, there lived a jackal who was very proud of her tail. One day, as she was loitering about in the jungle, she was caught in a trap.

Now, though she managed to get away, to her horror, her beautiful tail had been cut off. She was alarmed and thought, ‘I will be a laughing stock now! What should I do?’

She thought of a clever plan. She called a meeting of her friends and said, “Friends! Have you ever wondered why we carry these long tails? Let us cut them off and be free from this nuisance.”

But the other jackals had noticed her missing tail. They laughed out loud and joked, “There was a time when you used to show off your tail. Now, you have lost yours, you want us to lose ours too!” Saying this, all of them walked away leaving the jackal red-faced!

Moral: Bad tricks rarely work.
